Get ready to impress with a dip that will be the star of any gathering! This isn’t just another vegan dip; it’s a meticulously crafted culinary experience designed to bring joy and incredible flavor to your table. Forget store-bought cream cheese or pre-shredded vegan cheese – our recipe champions the use of simple, whole, and unprocessed ingredients to create a dip that’s both nourishing and unbelievably delicious. We combine two distinct yet complementary dips into one harmonious blend: a tangy, rich cream cheese-style jalapeño dip and a smooth, mellow Havarti-inspired dip. Swirl them together for a dynamic flavor profile, or serve them separately for a dual-dip experience.
The Secret Behind the Creamy Texture: Cashews and White Beans
The magic of this creamy vegan dip lies in its ingenious base of soaked cashews and northern white beans. Cashews provide an unparalleled richness and smooth texture, mimicking the indulgent mouthfeel of dairy. White beans, often overlooked, contribute to the dip’s creamy consistency while adding a nutritional boost of protein and fiber. This combination not only enhances the texture but also makes the dip lighter and more wholesome than many nut-heavy vegan alternatives. It’s an excellent way to enjoy a “cheesy” dip with fewer fats and more plant-based goodness. This thoughtful blend ensures a dip that is incredibly satisfying, whether you’re serving it hot or cold.

The Inspiration: A Fusion of Flavors
This dairy-free queso like dip draws inspiration from two beloved vegan creations: a spicy jalapeño popper dip previously featured in a tempeh scramble wrap, and a delightful Havarti-style cheese sauce used on a Creole spiced veggie omelette. By merging the best elements of both, we’ve created a dip that offers a unique and complex flavor. The cream cheese-style dip provides a familiar tang and heat, while the Havarti-style dip adds a subtle, buttery depth, creating a truly harmonious and addictive combination. This innovative approach makes our vegan jalapeño popper dip stand out, promising an unforgettable taste experience.
Customizing Your Vegan Delight
One of the best aspects of this recipe is its versatility. You can easily tailor it to your personal preferences and dietary needs. For an extra layer of texture and flavor, consider stirring in cooked corn kernels, adding a sprinkle of homemade coconut bacon for a smoky crunch, or even layering with your favorite store-bought vegan shredded cheese (like Daiya pepper jack or mozzarella) before a quick broil for that irresistible melty, stringy pull. The heat level can also be adjusted; use more fresh jalapeños for a spicier kick, or remove the seeds for a milder flavor. A medley of both fresh and pickled jalapeños provides a nuanced heat and tangy brightness that truly elevates the dip.
Serving Suggestions and Leftover Magic
This plant-based appetizer is incredibly versatile in how it can be served. Enjoy it warm and bubbly right out of the broiler, with a golden-brown crumb topping, or embrace its raw version by topping with a mixture of oat and almond crumbs or a raw almond parmesan mixed with extra virgin olive oil. It’s fantastic with crispy tortilla chips, sturdy crackers, fresh vegetable sticks (think carrots, celery, bell peppers), or even spread onto toasted bread. But don’t limit its potential to just dipping! If you find yourself with leftovers (which is unlikely!), this dip transforms beautifully into other dishes:
- Spread it generously on spicy sandwiches or wraps for a burst of flavor.
- Drizzle it over savory omelettes (like chickpea flour omelettes) or whisk it directly into the batter for an infused taste.
- Use it as a creamy sauce for pasta or as a decadent topping for baked potatoes or roasted vegetables.
Gluten-Free and Raw Options
This recipe is naturally gluten-free, making it accessible to a wider audience. To ensure it remains so, simply use gluten-free breadcrumbs for the topping, or opt for coarse-ground oats, almond parmesan, or crushed tortilla chips. For those on a raw food journey, this dip can easily be enjoyed uncooked. Simply prepare the cashew and bean base and seasonings as directed, top with coarsely ground almonds mixed with salt and nutritional yeast (or a pre-made almond parmesan), and serve immediately without broiling. The flavors meld beautifully, offering a refreshing and healthy raw dip option.

Step-by-Step Guide for Perfection
Crafting this homemade vegan cheese dip is simpler than you might think. The key is in preparing the base correctly and then layering the flavors. Here’s a brief overview of the process:
First, blend your soaked cashews and white beans into an incredibly smooth, luxurious puree. This forms the foundational creaminess of both dips. Divide this mixture into two portions. To the larger portion, you’ll add the ingredients for the Cream Cheese Jalapeño Dip, including raw sugar, salt, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, and both fresh and pickled jalapeños. Blend until perfectly smooth and creamy. For the Havarti-style dip, take the remaining portion of the cashew-bean mixture and blend it with salt, garlic powder, onion powder, more nutritional yeast, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and chickpea or yellow miso. The optional addition of beer can enhance the savory notes of the Havarti dip.
Once both dips are prepared, transfer them to a serving bowl. Gently swirl them together with additional chopped fresh and pickled jalapeños, creating an appetizing marbled effect without fully mixing. This allows each distinct flavor to shine through while complementing the other. Finally, top with toasted breadcrumbs (or your preferred gluten-free alternative) and broil briefly until golden and bubbly. Serve immediately and watch it disappear!

Blend cashews and white beans to create a silky-smooth base. Divide the mixture for each dip and season with the appropriate spices and flavorings.

Combine the two creamy dips in your serving bowl. Add a generous amount of chopped fresh and pickled jalapeños. Gently swirl the dips together to create an inviting marble effect, ensuring a delightful mix of flavors in every scoop.

Finish by topping with toasted breadcrumbs for a delightful crunch. A quick minute under the broiler will turn the crumbs golden and add a warm, inviting aroma, making your dip utterly irresistible. Serve hot and enjoy!

- 1/2 cup water
For Cream Cheese Jalapeño Dip:
- 2/3 portion of the above blended cashew and bean mixture
- 3/4 tsp raw sugar , or other sweetener
- 3/4 tsp salt or to taste
- 2 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 1 Tbsp nutritional yeast
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 – 1 Jalapeño, to spice preference
- 1 small pickled Jalapeño, 6-8 slices if using sliced
For Havarti Dip:
- 1/3 portion of the above blended cashew and bean mixture
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/8 tsp garlic powder
- 1/8 tsp onion powder, or 1/4 tsp onion flakes
- 1 Tbsp nutritional yeast
- a generous dash of black pepper
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes or to taste
- 2 tsps chickpea or yellow miso, use chickpea miso to make soy-free
- 1 Tablespoon beer, optional, for deeper flavor
Topping & Garnish:
- 1/2-1 Jalapeño chopped small
- 1 pickled jalapeño chopped small, 6-7 slices chopped
- 2-3 Tablespoons bread crumbs
- 2 tsps evoo or vegan butter
- a generous dash of salt and pepper
Instructions
-
Soak the cashews in warm hot water for 2-4 hours. Drain thoroughly. Blend the soaked cashews with 1/2 cup water until a smooth, thick cream forms. Add the cooked or canned northern white beans and extra virgin olive oil (if using) to the cashew cream, and blend again until the mixture is completely smooth and uniform. This is your cashew-bean cream base. Remove about one-third of this blended mixture and set aside; this portion will be used for the Havarti dip.
-
To the remaining cashew-bean mixture (approximately 2/3 of the original quantity) in the blender, add all the ingredients listed for the “Cream Cheese Jalapeño Dip” section: raw sugar, salt, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, and the fresh and pickled jalapeños. Blend until completely smooth and creamy. Taste the dip and adjust salt, sweetness, spice, and tanginess as needed to suit your preference. Pour this cream cheese-style jalapeño dip into a shallow baking or serving dish.
-
Clean the blender (or use a separate one if preferred). Add the reserved one-third portion of the cashew-bean mixture along with all the ingredients listed under the “Havarti Dip” section: salt, garlic powder, onion powder, nutritional yeast, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and chickpea or yellow miso. If desired, add the optional tablespoon of beer for a deeper, more complex flavor. Blend until smooth. Taste and adjust salt and spice to your liking. Pour this Havarti-style dip into the same serving dish, alongside the jalapeño cream cheese dip.
-
Evenly sprinkle additional chopped fresh jalapeño and chopped pickled jalapeño over both dips. Using a spoon or knife, gently swirl the two dips and the jalapeños together, creating attractive patterns without fully combining them. The goal is to have distinct swirls of each dip and visible jalapeño pieces.
-
In a small pan, combine the breadcrumbs with 2 teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil or vegan butter, and a generous dash of salt and pepper. Toast on the stovetop over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the breadcrumbs are golden brown and fragrant. Alternatively, you can toast them in the oven. Sprinkle these toasted breadcrumbs evenly over the swirled dips in the serving bowl. At this point, the dip can be served as is for a delicious raw or uncooked option.
-
For a warm, bubbly dip with a crispy top, place the serving dish on the top rack of your oven under the broiler. Broil for approximately 1 minute, or until the breadcrumbs begin to brown and the dip is heated through and slightly bubbling around the edges. Keep a close eye on it to prevent burning. Serve hot with your favorite chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables.
-
To make the dip entirely gluten-free, ensure you use certified gluten-free bread crumbs. Other excellent gluten-free topping alternatives include coarse ground oats, almond parmesan, or crushed tortilla chips. Apply your chosen topping, broil (if desired), and serve.
-
For a raw version of this dip, use coarsely ground almonds mixed with a pinch of salt and nutritional yeast (or a store-bought raw almond parmesan) as the topping. Simply spread this mixture over the prepared dips and serve without any cooking or broiling.

Notes
If you desire an extra melty top, sprinkle with your favorite store-bought vegan shredded cheese (like Daiya) or homemade options such as coconut milk mozzarella or cashew mozzarella, alongside breadcrumbs, before broiling.
Allowing the dip to sit for an hour or so before broiling and serving will allow the flavors to meld and deepen, enhancing the overall taste experience. This dip can be refrigerated for up to 3 days. When ready to serve, bring it to room temperature, then broil and enjoy.
